Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why do I have to pay a parking fee?
A. You were parked in private property. The conditions which apply to people who park within the property are described on signs at the entry and within the car park. Your parking ticket describes the reason you are required to pay a parking fee in this instance. For example, it may be that you parked in a disabled space or loading zone or that a condition of entry was that a fee was payable for parking longer than a particular time.

Q. Why in some cases is there a limited period of free parking?
A. Parking in private property is provided specifically for people who are legitimately doing business in the property. For example, shoppers visiting a shopping centre or customers and clients visiting an office. Unfortunately, commuters and other people who are not doing business in a property often use private parking facilities and reduce the number of parking spaces available to the legitimate customer.

Q. Where parking time in private property such as a shopping centre needs to be limited, why don’t they provide a longer period of free parking?
A. The duration of the free period is based on the maximum time which most shoppers spend in the centre. In the majority of cases a parking fee (ticket) is only issued when a vehicle has been parked well in excess of that period of time.

Q. If I don’t agree with being issued with a parking fee (ticket), what can I do about it?
A. Please visit our Objections Page for more information on this matter.

Q. Why didn’t I see any signs?
A. Signage is displayed prominently at the entrances to the car park and throughout the car park. The signs clearly describe the conditions which apply to parking in the property.

Q. How is it that you can issue a ticket?
A. The owner of the property is entitled to charge a fee for parking. It is a parking fee - not a fine.

Q. Why have I got this payment demand letter?
A. A parking fee (ticket) was attached to your vehicle whilst it was parked in the car park. The ticket clearly states payment is required within 14 days. We can provide a copy of the ticket on request.

Q. What if I don’t pay?
A. Firstly you will incur additional fees of $66 for costs that are incurred by us in finding your address and contacting you. If you don’t pay after our initial notice we will have to take you to the civil court. This will result in additional legal and other court costs being added to your fee if you are unable to convince the court that you should not have to pay.

Q. How did you obtain my name and address details?
A. We are legally able to obtain your details because you have an outstanding debt.

Q. I wasn’t driving the vehicle at the time.
A. If you weren’t the driver at the time, the best solution is to pay the parking fee and then recover the fee from the driver. However if the circumstances do not make this possible you should send us a Statutory Declaration stating that you were not the driver of the vehicle at the time and provide the name and address of the person who was driving. You can obtain a Statutory Declaration form from our website on our Objections page
